National Immigration Forum The National Immigration Forum is to embrace and uphold America's tradition as a nation of immigrants. The Forum advocates and builds public support for public policies that welcome immigrants and refugees and that are fair and supportive to newcomers in our country.

The Center: Resources for Teaching and Learning The Center is a not-for-profit corporation that provides a broad range of professional development services and instructional resources for school communities throughout Illinois and the nation.
Its broad range of programs span from early education through adult learning. Presently The Center each year provides support, training and assistance to more than 25,000 teachers, administrators, parents and other educational stakeholders.
U.S. Committee for Refugees This site contains the text of the last two editions of the "World Refugee Survey", news updates and links to more information. The USCR site updates information on the situation in Kosovo frequently. Some picture galleries can also be found here.
The Sudan Page One of the best sources of Sudan information online. Includes political information and news, culture, geography and more.
U.S. State Department: Regional Affairs This site on the U.S. State Dept. home page is an excellent, user-friendly resource for up-to-date information on world events and specific region/country information. It includes extensive reference information on world regions and countries and on U.S. policy towards them as well as recent press and government statements on policy issues and major events.
Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration PRM works out of the U.S. State Department and has primary responsibility within the government for "formulating policies on population, refugees, and migration, and for administering U.S. refugee assistance and admissions programs." This site includes recent statements and briefings on refugee-related issues from the press and the government, budget information, a quarterly report on PRM's activities, a few articles on U.S. policy regarding various refugee issues, and current information on the U.S. refugee admissions programs for different countries. It also has some links, but they are primarily in the area of "population". The refugee- related information on this site is not as extensive as on others, and is mainly arranged chronologically, making it more difficult to find something specific. However, it is valuable for its information on U.S. government policies towards refugees, particularly the recent information on admissions programs (includes numerical data, cooperating NGOs).
Refugees International This is a Washington D.C.- based private advocacy organization. The service they are most known for is onsite assessments of emergency situations which then pave the way for incoming relief agencies.
The web-site is informative on refugee issues and has a lot of photos and even a few videos. It includes a full-text annual report, with photos and articles on RI's activities around the world, detailed information about RI and its programs, articles and information on regions in which RI works and examinations of particular issues (such as land mines in Southeast Asia). Some of the issue reports contain links for more information.
The site is also developing a section intended for high school students. This site is full of color photos , has good graphics, is user-friendly, and gives information both on larger issues and their "human side" with close-up examinations on particular locations (with photos). The information is, however, not as recent as on some sites (nothing recent on Kosovo, for example.) But it is an excellent site for giving a "human face" to refugee crisis' and is also informative on the areas and issues it covers.
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cross The IFRC is present in nearly every country of the world. The web site contains extensive information on the organization, links to its affiliates, recent updates on its activities, a catalogue of publications, and news releases on humanitarian disasters around the world. This site is highly useful for up-to-date, comprehensive accounts of worldwide humanitarian disasters and what the IFRC is doing to help. It also is very visually appealing and user-friendly.
International Organization for Migration The IOM is an intergovernmental body that works with international partners to assist in migration issues. Highlights of the site include information on recent IOM activities around the world, a listing of IOM's (many) publications, and "migration web," which aims to be "the gateway to migration-related information on the internet." On it one can search for articles and web sites related to migration, migration legislation in different countries, and IOM documents and resolutions. This site isn't as "vibrant" as some, but its "migration web" would be highly useful for research purposes.
Interaction Interaction is a Washington DC-based coalition of over 150 nonprofit organizations working in international humanitarian efforts. The site provides links to its members and information in the areas of Interaction's programs, refugees, development, advocacy, disasters, and publications. It also gives reports on particular humanitarian crisis' in the world, such as Hurricane Mitch and Kosovo. The "refugee" link leads to "Interaction's Committee for migration and Refugee Affairs" (www.interaction.org/refugee/refugees.html), a group of 21 agencies that focus on refugee protection, assistance, resettlement, and advocacy. It "primarily provides a forum through which the US resettlement agencies coordinate their programs and policies, build consensus on refugee issues, and interface with various US government and United Nations agencies." The ICMR site gives links to its members with web sites, general information on the world refugee situation (and why Americans should care), articles on current issues, country situation reports, and links to some other refugee-related organizations and publications. This site provides a readable introduction to the refugee situation, how it relates to Americans' lives, and what can be done to help. Its links also are useful for learning where to go for more detailed information on refugees and which organizations are working with them.
Dave's ESL Cafe This is a comprehensive and fun web site aimed at facilitating exchange between ESL students and ESL teachers. It includes chat sites, job postings, quotes, a One-Stop ESL Search Page, and an "Idea Cookbook" of 569 ESL "recipes" in 24 categories such as Games, Grammar, Holidays, and Pronunciation.
The United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees The international body overseeing much of the work to aid refugees. The UNHCR page contains a wealth of background information and statistics. Check out the "Witness" area for a multimedia look at refugee concerns.
