DuPage County faces a budget deficit of up to $45 million in the next two years. Devasting cuts are planned for the DuPage County Human Services Grant Fund, Ride DuPage, Access DuPage, the Family Self Sufficiency Program and Mental Health Services. Many newly arrived refugees live in DuPage County. These cuts jeapordize crucial services that help these vulnerable residents during the difficult transition to their new community.
How You Can Help Chairman of the DuPage County Board, Bob Schillerstrom, asked the Illinois General Assembly for legislation to authorize an increase in the tobacco tax to generate the revenues needed to continue providing important services to newly arriving refugee families and other vulnerable residents. The Illinois House of Representatives approved an increase in the tobacco tax and the legislation will go before the Illinois State very soon.
Please phone, email or write your state senator and ask them to vote yes for SB716. Contact information for your legislators is available at www.ilga.gov <http://www.ilga.gov/> .
